If you know me, you know that I struggle with Shabbos and always have.
This past weekend I struggled less than usual and was able to relax, thank G-d.
I thought about the notion that Shabbos is faith.
On the day of rest we are not passively resting — this is the part that bothers me. I believe in action! I hate wasting time.
The truth is that on Shabbos, we spend the day actively building a spiritual house. What you might call a House of Faith.
All day Saturday, we aren’t working.
We aren’t fooling ourselves that the money comes from our hands, our brains, our giant ideas or our physical might.
The truth is that money comes from the Creator.
Every minute we abstain from doing work, we build a construction that is deeply tangible in its intangibility.
The work of the day is to see it in your mind’s eye.
Working on Shabbos does not ever get you rewards.
It mires you down in the endless illusions and delusions of this world.
Faith, with appropriate action at the right time and place, and in the right way.
God, please bless me to have faith.
